چکیده

Copyright © 2012 Frederick Furness Publishing 4 Silicone oil is commonly used as a lubricant coating in prefilled syringes (PFS) and is becoming one of the most highly discussed topics in the PFS market, particularly for developers of highly sensitive biotech drugs. In specific biological drug cases, unexpected drug-container interactions have been reported that were attributed to or associated with sub-visible particles generated from the lubricating silicone layer. Here, Sebastien Jouffray, Core Team Leader, R&D Advanced Product Development, BD Medical – Pharmaceutical Systems, describes an innovative immobilised silicone coating: cross-linked silicone, XSiTM. It significantly reduces sub-visible particles while retaining lubrication performance. XSiTM does not introduce any new materials, enabling rapid implementation in PFS for both legacy as well as pipeline drugs. Large meteoroids produced by comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke

By using high-sensitivity CCD video devices we have analyzed the activity of the June Bootid (JBO) meteor shower. This monitoring has provided an opportunity to analyze the physico-chemical properties of large meteoroids produced by comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke. The analysis of a fireball produced by a meteoroid with a mass of about 257 kg is presented here.

Zinc Deficiency–Associated Dermatitis in Infants During a Nationwide Shortage of Injectable Zinc — Washington, DC, and Houston, Texas, 2012–2013

Injectable zinc, a vital component of parenteral nutrition (PN) formulations, has been in short supply in the United States since late 2012. In December 2012, three premature infants with cholestasis hospitalized in Washington, DC, experienced erosive dermatitis in the diaper area and blisters on their extremities, a condition that can be associated with zinc deficiency. All three infants were ...

Policy and programmatic considerations for introducing a longer-acting injectable contraceptive: perspectives of stakeholders from Kenya and Rwanda

BACKGROUND More than 40 million women use injectable contraceptives to prevent pregnancy, and most current or previous injectable users report being satisfied with the method. However, while women may find injectables acceptable, they may not always find them accessible due to stock-outs and difficulties with returning to the clinic for reinjections. FHI 360 is spearheading efforts to develop a...

Zinc Deficiency Dermatitis in Cholestatic Extremely Premature Infants After a Nationwide Shortage of Injectable Zinc — Washington, DC, December 2012

In mid-December 2012, three extremely premature infants with cholestasis in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) developed dermatitis in the diaper region, perioral erosions, and bullae on the dorsal surfaces of their hands and feet (Figure). The infants were similar in gestational age (23-24 weeks) and corrected postnatal age (33-38 weeks). All had severe cholestasis (direct bilirubin >3 mg/d...
